This article will introduce our new in-house job creation experience. With this new user experience we’ve refreshed our design & simplified the number of steps it takes to create your in-house job. We’ve done this by adding additional capabilities some of which include drag & drop, browse files, and bulk functionality. Let’s dive in!
What’s New?
Moving to a full page view from a modal view will allow you to focus on entering your in-house job! Alongside that, we have moved all required fields to the top to give you easier access to the minimum required fields you have to input per line item.
Creating a Job
Just a little refresher, you can start creating your jobs by going to the Job Management Page in the menu bar. From there, you can click on the “Create Job” button to get started.
Once you’ve clicked “Create Job”, the first thing you’ll be encouraged to do enter is your Job ID. You can always come back to this when you’ve entered all the other information you need. The only requirement to create a job is to enter a job ID and add at least one line item. Everything else is optional and depends on how you and your team work best.
Note: You can discard your job at any time by clicking the “Discard Job” in the top right corner.
Adding a line item
There are now three ways for you to enter a line item. You may add a line item manually, drag & drop or browse files to add a part file. You can also add a line item by PDF or engineering drawing.
Note: If you do upload a PDF or engineering drawing, this will appear in the additional media section of your line item vs the thumbnail. The thumbnail is reserved for part file types.
Manually
Select the “Add a Line Item Manually” button to add a line item manually. When you do, the line item will be added with default pre-filled values and expanded for you to edit the information. All the required fields have been moved to the top to make it easier for you to find. If you’re adding a line item manually, the default name for your line item will be a number that reflects the order it was added.\
You can also add a part file from the upload icon on the left-hand side of the line item name.
Adding a part file will generate a thumbnail preview of your part file. Clicking on the preview will allow you to navigate the 3D model of your part file as well as replace or delete your file
Once you have added a line item, we have included another way to quickly add another manually by clicking the plus sign on the left-hand side.
Drag & Drop
Adding a line item by dragging and dropping a part file will give you the same functionality as adding a line item manually with the added benefit of having the part file already uploaded and automatically filling out the line item name to match the part file.
When you drag and drop a part file to add a line item, the line item name will be prefilled to be the part file name. If you select the name, you can choose between that or a number that reflects the order the line item was added.
Browse Files
You can also add a line item by browsing your files. Just like drag & drop, adding a line item by browsing your files will give you the same functionality as adding a line item manually with the added benefit of having the part file already uploaded and automatically filling out the line item name to match the part file. The line item name will be the same as the drag and drop functionality.
Bulk Create Functionality
Drag & Drop and Browse Files also have the adde benefit of allowing you to add multiple line items at the same time. When you bulk create your line items, you have the ability to mass update these fields:
- Line Item Type
- Material
- Finish
- Quantity
Bulk Edit Functionality
Once you’ve added multiple line items, you can also mass edit them by either selecting the checkboxes next to the line item on the left or selecting the checkbox in the header to select all line items.
When you select multiple checkboxes, the buttons to Bulk Edit & Bulk Delete will show up on the right corner of the line item entry experience.
If you click “Bulk Edit Selected”, similar to the creation modal, you will be able to mass edit the following fields by first clicking the checkbox next to the fields you want to edit and then selecting the value from the dropdown:
- Line Item Type
- Material
- Finish
- Quantity
Once you are done, select the “Edit # of Line Items" button. Any checkboxes that are not selected will not be impacted by the changes.
If you select the “Bulk Delete Selected” button you will be prompted to confirm your deletion before deleting your line items.
Additional Details Section
Once you are finished adding your line items, you can move on to filling out the additional details section. This includes things like Ship By Date, Production Notes, Customers and more.
Note: These are all optional fields.
If you add a customer, you may also add a shipping address as well by clicking the “Add Shipping Address” button. If you’ve added any production notes, make sure to click the save button in the bottom right corner.
Once you’ve finished adding all the information for your job, simply click the Create Job Button in the top right corner and you’re all set. You are always able to edit your job including adding any additional information, attachments, production notes etc. from the Job Overview page once you have created your job.
