We offer four different inspection options for our 3D printing processes, which are described in more detail below. Please note that at this time, we do not offer Formal Inspection with Dimensional Report options for PolyJet or Metal Binder Jetting processes.
Xometry's Manufacturing Standards provide tolerancing guidelines for our processes. Please refer to process-specific tolerances if you are making a technical drawing for an additive-manufactured part.
Inspection Options
- Standard Inspection: QC will visually inspect for missing features and warping and verify that the part material and finish are in accordance with the requirements specified in the quote. Any additional dimensional inspection requirements identified on the purchase order or attached drawing will be adhered to at the discretion of Xometry. The supplied CAD file will be the primary reference. Customer-supplied drawings/prints will be considered for feature reference only (eg. tapped holes, insert information). Documentation will not be shipped with your parts.
- ✅ Parts are checked for quality and workmanship.
- ❌ No inspection documentation in the shipment.
- ✅ CAD is the primary reference.
- Formal Inspection with Dimensional Report: QC will inspect using calibrated tools, recording measurements on an AS9102 form. The specified critical dimensions must be accessible with calipers or pin gages. Otherwise, a Custom Inspection is required. Measurement will occur before additional finishes are applied unless otherwise noted. A dimensional inspection report with a correlated ballooned print will be shipped with your part(s). A customer-supplied dimensional print is required for this inspection.
- ✅ An inspection report is delivered with the part(s).
- ✅ AS9102 documentation.
- ✅ A technical drawing is required.
- Build and Hold First Article Inspection: Xometry will complete and ship a single part or a small batch of parts for your in-hand acceptance before starting on the remaining production quantity. The customer will outline the first article requirements during quoting.
- ✅ A part or set of parts is shipped for approval before production continues.
- ✅ Additional inspection reports can be requested with the shipment.
- Custom Inspection: Choose this option if your part requires custom inspection, such as, but not limited to, Custom Sampling Plans, GD&T, or if you would like to provide your inspection datasheet. A customer-supplied dimensional print is required for this inspection.
- ✅ Xometry will follow customer-specified inspection requirements.
Sampling Plan
Our Statistical Sampling Plan is based on ASQC Z1.4 2008 Level II with Zero rejects. Please refer to Table 2 below.
