Selecting the Right Box
- Single-walled boxes should not be used for anything weighing over 20 pounds
- Double-walled boxes are the preferred box for CNC and sheet metal orders
- Boxes that are over 14” should be double-walled
- Do not pack parts weighing over 50 pounds into a single double-walled box. If you need to send parts in more than one box, you can print more shipping labels in the Partner Portal
Note: DO NOT RE-USE BOXES, USE BRANDED BOXES, OR INCLUDE ANY BRANDED ITEMS IN BOXES WITH XOMETRY PARTS. (Examples: Amazon boxes. boxes with logos or other company names, etc.)
Please ensure that all parts have been deburred and are free of dirt and oil prior to shipping. To ensure all parts are received by the customer unharmed and free of dings and scratches, we recommend the following packaging procedures provided.
Use the Direct Ship Kit Materials
Xometry will send you a direct ship kit once you become eligible to ship parts directly to the customer. You are eligible for direct ship status once you have completed 3 jobs and maintain an 80+ Quality PSS. The direct ship kit contains the following shipping materials:
One (1) CADBeast Sticker and one (1) Xometry Thank You Card should be included inside each outgoing package containing Xometry parts.
One (1) Xometry Branded Decal or Xometry Branded Tape should be affixed to the outside of each outgoing package containing Xometry parts. (Please note: Xometry branded tape is a new product that is shipping out to partners beginning July/August '21)
Once you have noticed that you are running low on decals, let us know using this support form and we will send you more.
When to Request a Freight Shipment
FedEx will take boxes that weigh up to 150 pounds, however our recommendation is to not package a box over 75 pounds. If you aren't able to split an order up and the box is over 75 pounds, you should request a freight shipment from Xometry.
Also, if the part is over 52 inches in any direction, regardless of weight, please request freight shipment.
If you require freight, inform your case manager, use the "Ask a Question" function on your job details page, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the estimated weights and dimensions for the shipment and any other relevant details. Let us know as far in advance as you can to avoid potential delays while we arrange the freight shipment.
When packing for freight please be aware of exposed corners or edges. The best way to eliminate this issue would be to box parts that are to be palletized. Packaging material like kraft paper and foam should still be utilized when packing.
